SUPPORT FROM THE UNDERDOGS

Devonshire boys The Rumble Strips have been firm friends since childhood and have always had a passion for music. The current line up of Charlie Waller (lead vocals, guitar) Henry Clark (trumpet, vocals, piano) Tom Gorbutt (sax, vocals, bass) Matthew Wheeler (drums) and Sam Mansbridge (bass, vocals, ‘rumble drum’) has been together officially since 2004 and the boys are now based in London. The band take their name from rumble strips; small continuous lines of bumps which run along the edge of a road.

In 2004 lead vocalist Charlie Waller also joined forces with the band Vincent Vincent and The Villains, at that period in time he was living with the front man Vincent Vincent, but the strain of performing in two separate bands lead to Waller’s decision to quit both groups before being coaxed back into The Rumble Strips. Waller’s decision to re-unite with The Rumble Strips is believed to have caused some bitterness with the band Vincent Vincent and The Villains, which resulted in the song ‘Johnny Two-Bands’ being written about Waller.

The Rumble Strips are currently signed to Fallout Records which is a subsidiary of Universal Island Records. The band released their debut E.P in November 2006 titled ‘Cardboard Coloured Dreams’. At the end of 2006 Sam Mansbridge was recruited in order to beef up the live sound; playing bass and the infamous big orange drum known as the ‘rumble drum’ which has become somewhat of a spectacle of the band’s live act.

September 10th 2007 saw the release of The Rumble Strip’s first full-length studio album named ‘Girls and Weather’. It is an album of great variety, showcasing the band’s diversity and talent; broadly upbeat juxtaposed with a dark underbelly. Lyrically speaking it’s quite throw away really, however it is an album packed full of energy and a great example of a band who are really enjoying what they are doing; they’re having fun and their music is proof of that.

The band’s sophomore album - ‘Welcome to The Walk Alone’ saw its release on July 13th, through Island Records. Produced by Mark Ronson, ‘Welcome to The Walk Alone’ is the extraordinary follow up to the band’s critically acclaimed 2007 debut.

Recalling the widescreen sounds of Phil Spector and Scott Walker, coupled with 1940's wartime melodies and early 1960s European soul, ‘Welcome to The Walk Alone’ is a timeless record that sounds like nothing else released this year.
